Good Distractions

I was invited by my good friend Bo to join him in an acoustic samba session. So, instead of laying out the songs and so on for the next recording of songs I have written, I broke out the fake books, downloaded a few tunes on Bo's list, and started back to thinking in keys, modes, major sevenths, and so on. Actually, I was thinking that way a few weeks back, including watching a Joe Pass video while pumping on the elliptical trainer. So it is a distraction from one task at hand, but it may also be a priming of the pump. Who knows. maybe there will be a few different things coming out of the studio in 2007.

Guy Clark/Slaid Cleaves

Saw Guy Clark with Verlon Thompson last night at BB Kings in NYC. Slaid Cleaves opened. It was a great show. Slaid played a solid set. I bought his CD when it first came out, enjoyed it. As usual for me, its always fun to see and hear someone in stripped down mode- two guitars and vocals. Then, of course, the GREAT Guy Clark came out with Verlon to his right. Guy is pure grace and class, real, down to earth. Even with a nasty cold, he put on a great show. Verlon did a few tunes in the middle - great player, and songwriter as well; humble. (Who wouldn't be standing next to Guy.) The night was truly inspirational. I felt privileged to be in the audience.

Spring - to the Studio?

OK - it is now early April, springtime- sort of- the rites of spring - the time of rebirth, freedom, release from the winter cold and dark. So now, at long last, I think I have a bead on getting the next batch of songs perpetuated into 1's and 0's. More stripped down then Find the Moon? More "live." Now, to get down there, fresh strings, and go. Stay tuned!
